Personal trainers and group fitness instructor roles can vary, but the desire is the same: helping people work out safely and effectively. Personal trainers work with people individually to help them develop an exercise program that will be safe but also work the best for their goals. Group fitness instructors work with a class to take them through a specific exercise sequence – such as kickboxing or Pilates. They show the class how to do the exercises, and they watch to see how they can get students to improve. Personal trainers have a post-secondary certificate in personal training while a group instructor will usually have a certification in their exercise specialty. The median pay for these professionals is about $15.00 an hour.
